How we test customer support software

Every ranking on this site is built the same way: hands-on evaluation against a fixed set of criteria, scored with a single metric, and ordered by our editors - not by who pays.

Who runs our reviews?

Elena Petrova leads testing on this site. Elena Petrova writes and edits Customer Support / Live Chat & AI Support software reviews - independent, hands-on evaluations against a published methodology. Every ranking is a hands-on evaluation, not a repackaged vendor feature list. Detailed reviewer notes and the full test log for each tool are published here by the editorial desk.

What do we test?

Each tool is put through the same checklist so rankings are comparable. These are the criteria every product is measured against:

  • Setup & onboarding

How fast a real team gets from sign-up to a working support queue - agents, widget, and routing.

  • Automation & AI

Bots, macros, and AI deflection: how much routine volume the tool resolves before a human is needed.

  • Channel coverage

Live chat, email, voice, social, and in-app messaging in one place - and how well they stay in sync.

  • Integrations & ecosystem

CRM, e-commerce, and developer integrations that fit the stack a support team already runs.

  • Pricing transparency

Whether the real total cost - seats, usage, and add-ons - is clear before you commit.

  • Admin, routing & workflow

Assignment rules, SLAs, and permissions an ops manager needs to run a busy desk.

  • Reporting & analytics

The dashboards and exports leaders actually use to manage volume, staffing, and quality.

  • Reliability & security

Uptime track record, data handling, and the compliance posture B2B buyers require.

How do we score each tool?

Each product earns a single SupportScore - our composite rating that rolls up the criteria above into one comparable number, weighted toward the things support teams feel every day. The exact weighting and per-tool scores are published with each review. We do not show a score until a tool has actually been tested, so no SupportScore appears on this page.

How do we stay independent?

The ranking order is editorial. It follows this published methodology - not payment - and a sponsored vendor is never placed at the top of a list because it is sponsored. That is the honest model behind this publication, stated plainly:

  • Rankings and scores are set by our editors against the criteria above, and the order is not for sale.
  • Some links are affiliate links: we may earn a commission when you buy through them, at no extra cost to you.
  • Sponsored or featured-partner placements are clearly labeled and set apart from the organic ranked list.

The single commission disclosure line sits in the site footer. For the full policy - what a sponsorship can and cannot buy - see our editorial policy.
